The case first came to Garda attention last Friday after Ireland’s child and family agency, Tusla, raised concerns. In a statement, Gardaí said they have been unable to locate the boy or uncover evidence that he is alive. His last known residence was at The Gallery Apartments in Donabate. A senior investigating officer has been assigned to lead the inquiry from an incident room at Swords Garda Station.
Tusla confirmed that the referral to Gardaí was made on 29 August following an application for a social welfare payment, though further details were not disclosed. The agency said it will continue to cooperate fully with police throughout the process. Gardaí emphasised that no arrests have been made at this stage and investigations are ongoing.

The disappearance of the child has shocked the local community in Donabate. Gardaí have confirmed that there have been no verified sightings of him for years, adding to fears that he may have died some time ago. Officers stressed that the search effort will take time, with specialist teams and resources deployed to examine the open ground in detail.
The case has raised difficult questions about how a child could be unaccounted for over such a long period without detection. Gardaí are now working to establish the timeline of the boy’s last known movements and to determine whether any individuals may have had knowledge of his whereabouts. While they have not released the child’s name, they said they are treating the investigation with the utmost seriousness given the possibility of criminal implications.
Tusla, Ireland’s child and family agency, is under scrutiny as it was their welfare checks that triggered the investigation. The agency said it referred the matter immediately upon discovering concerns linked to a social welfare application. Both Tusla and Gardaí have stressed the sensitivity of the case and urged the public to avoid speculation. The search in Donabate is expected to continue for several days as authorities pursue all possible leads.
