French Actor Gérard Depardieu to Stand Trial for Rape, Actress Says

French actress Charlotte Arnould announced that Gérard Depardieu will face trial for allegedly raping her. The Paris prosecutor’s office has not yet confirmed this but Arnould shared the news on Instagram, saying she feels relieved. Arnould first came forward in 2018, claiming Depardieu assaulted her twice at his Paris home when she was in her early twenties. She was 22 at the time, a rising actress and former ballet dancer.

Her case was initially dropped due to lack of evidence but later reopened in 2020. In 2022, investigative judges placed Depardieu under formal investigation. She said she struggled to grasp the scale of the trial but expressed relief that the process is moving forward.

Depardieu, who has denied any wrongdoing, is one of France’s most famous actors with a career spanning decades. He rose to international fame in the 1970s and starred in many acclaimed films.
