(In South Africa) Four Suspected Robbers Killed in Randfontein Police Shootout


In Randfontein, west of Johannesburg, four unidentified men were fatally shot by police during a shootout on Ventersdorp Road. The suspects, traveling in a white Toyota Starlet, were intercepted by law enforcement following intelligence from the Eastern Cape police's Crime Intelligence Unit indicating a planned robbery of a businessman carrying a large sum of money to a bank.

According to Gauteng Deputy Provincial Commissioner Major General Fred Kekana, the suspects opened fire on officers attempting to stop their vehicle, prompting police to retaliate, resulting in the deaths of the four men. Authorities recovered a rifle and two pistols from the scene, and Ventersdorp Road was closed in both directions for forensic analysis.
