(In Kenyan) Former Chief Justice Maraga Warns Ruto of ICC Probe Over Protest Violence

Former Kenyan Chief Justice David Maraga has sparked widespread discussion by warning President William Ruto of potential International Criminal Court (ICC) investigations due to recent politically charged protests and alleged killings. Maraga criticized Ruto’s provocative statements and failure to address escalating tensions, which he says have caught the attention of the international community. He suggested that the ICC could have sufficient evidence and witnesses to pursue charges against Ruto and other officials for human rights violations.

Maraga’s remarks come on the heels of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s announcement that he has formed a legal team to compile evidence against Ruto for ICC submission. Speaking to Kenyans in the United States, Gachagua revealed that the team is documenting alleged state-sponsored killings, abductions, and disappearances. He aims to revive Ruto’s unresolved ICC case tied to the 2007 post-election violence, intensifying scrutiny on the president’s leadership amid ongoing unrest.
