Kenyan Mugithi sensation Samuel Muchoki, popularly known as Samidoh, has captured widespread attention with the announcement of his highly anticipated homecoming party scheduled for July 26, 2025, following an extended stay in the United States. The celebrated singer, who also serves as a police officer, has stirred intrigue with his unexpected guest lineup for the event, prompting speculation among fans about potential romantic entanglements, particularly given his publicized personal life and past controversies. Posts on X and various media reports have fueled discussions, with some fans playfully teasing about his interactions with US-based influencer Bernice Saroni, though no concrete evidence supports romantic claims.
Samidoh’s return comes on the heels of significant drama with his employer, the National Police Service (NPS), which declared him a deserter after he failed to report to his reassigned post at the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) in Gilgil, Nakuru County, by May 27, 2025. The NPS issued an arrest warrant and suspended his salary, citing a violation of Service Standing Orders due to his absence exceeding ten days without leave. The controversy began earlier, on May 16, 2025, when a video of Samidoh performing at a Thika nightclub went viral, showing him leading crowds in chanting “Wantam,” a politically charged slogan associated with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, advocating for a one-term presidency for President William Ruto. The performance, perceived as a breach of the NPS’s requirement for political neutrality, led to his transfer from the Central Region Police Headquarters in Nairobi to the remote Gilgil unit as a disciplinary measure.

Despite the disciplinary action, Samidoh continued his international music tour, performing in cities like London, Houston, and Seattle, where he further embraced the “Wantam” chant and even wore a t-shirt emblazoned with Gachagua’s slogan “Hi Cousins” alongside Saroni. His defiance extended to social media, where he posted cryptic messages, including quotes from Abraham Lincoln and Thomas Jefferson about justice and resistance, interpreted by many as subtle critiques of the Kenyan government’s actions, particularly amid protests against police brutality. Samidoh’s meeting with Gachagua and opposition figure Martha Karua in the US further fueled speculation about his political affiliations, though Gachagua advised him to focus on his music career and avoid political entanglements.
The Mugithi star’s prolonged absence from his police duties, initially believed to be a strategic move to avoid the political storm, was later clarified by leaked documents showing he had received official leave approval for his US trip. Nevertheless, his failure to return on time escalated tensions with the NPS. In a recent TikTok live session, Samidoh downplayed the arrest warrant with humor, joking about his family responsibilities and questioning the term “deserter.” As the political heat subsides, his homecoming party is seen as an attempt to reconnect with fans and reassert his dominance in the Mugithi scene, though questions linger about his future with the NPS, with some, including Gachagua, urging him to resign and focus on his lucrative music career.
