According to a statement from the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), the charges are the result of extensive investigations launched in late 2024 into the diversion of public funds. The probe uncovered collusion between NPA officials and certain oil marketing and bulk distribution companies.

The OSP revealed that proceeds from the scheme were laundered through the acquisition of real estate, the purchase of trucks for oil distribution, and the construction of fuel stations—moves aimed at concealing the illicit origin of the funds.

This case marks a significant development in Ghana's efforts to combat high-level corruption in the petroleum sector.
