Kevin Durant is now a member of the Houston Rockets after the NBA confirmed a historic seven team trade involving six players and thirteen draft picks. The deal is the largest multi team trade in league history. The Phoenix Suns sent Durant to Houston, receiving a package that includes Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, Daeqwon Plowden, Koby Brea, Rasheer Fleming, a future second round pick, and the rights to tenth overall pick Khaman Maluach. The Rockets also acquired center Clint Capela in the deal. Other teams involved include Brooklyn, the Lakers, Minnesota, Atlanta, and Golden State. The Nets receive two second round picks. The Lakers get the rights to Adou Thiero. Minnesota collects the rights to Rocco Zikarsky, two second round picks, and cash. The Hawks receive David Roddy, a second round pick swap, and cash. Golden State acquires the rights to Alex Toohey and Jahmai Mashack. The trade marks the end of Durant’s time in Phoenix. It also reunites him with the state of Texas, where he played college basketball at the University of Texas. This move is expected to shift the balance of power in the Western Conference and reshape Houston’s immediate future.
Kevin Durant has officially joined the Houston Rockets and expressed optimism about his new chapter. Speaking after the trade was announced at Fanatics Fest in New York, Durant said, “Being a part of the Houston Rockets, I am looking forward to it. Crazy last couple of weeks, but I am glad it is over with.” Durant averaged 26.6 points, six rebounds, and 4.2 assists over 62 games last season. He also recently helped Team USA win a fourth Olympic gold medal in Paris. His experience and leadership are expected to boost Houston’s playoff hopes. The Rockets had a strong regular season finish with a 52 and 30 record but lost in the first round to Golden State. Head coach Ime Udoka welcomed Durant’s arrival, calling him the type of competitor who fits Houston’s identity. “His skill level, love of the game, and dedication to the craft make him one of the most respected players of this generation,” said Udoka. Durant also addressed his exit from Phoenix, saying, “They wanted me to go. They got what they wanted and I got what I wanted. We move on.” His comments suggest the split was mutual and that he is focused on moving forward. With a revamped roster and a proven superstar on board, the Rockets are positioning themselves as serious contenders in the Western Conference.
