Viktor Gyokeres to Sacrifice £1.7M Salary and End Relationship to Force Arsenal Move

Viktor Gyokeres is going all-in to make his dream move to Arsenal a reality. The Swedish striker is reportedly so eager to join the Gunners that he’s offered to give up £1.73 million from his potential five-year contract. The goal is to help Arsenal meet Sporting CP’s £70 million valuation of the player. This comes after months of negotiations between the two clubs, with Arsenal now believed to be closing in on a deal. The latest offer reportedly stands at £56.2 million up front plus an additional £13 million in performance-related add-ons. Gyokeres has been pushing hard for the move throughout the summer, even refusing to report for pre-season training at Sporting. Arsenal’s initial focus had been on Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig, but after those talks stalled, attention shifted to Gyokeres. The 27-year-old has made it clear that the Emirates is his preferred destination, rejecting offers from Saudi Arabian clubs and Juventus in the process. Mikel Arteta is said to be eager to bring in a new No.9 before Arsenal’s pre-season tour to Singapore begins on July 19. Gyokeres appears to be the club’s top target now, with reports claiming he has already agreed personal terms. His goal-scoring record is impressive: 97 goals in 102 games for Sporting, following successful spells at Coventry and brief stints at Brighton, St Pauli, and Swansea.

Beyond football, Viktor Gyokeres has reportedly made personal sacrifices to support his push for a move to Arsenal. According to reports from Portuguese outlet TV Guia, Gyokeres ended his relationship with Portuguese actress Ines Aguiar before departing on his summer vacation. The couple had not been seen together in recent weeks, and her absence from the wedding of Gyokeres’ Sporting teammate added to speculation about their split. Sources close to the striker say he decided to “cut all ties” to Portugal in preparation for his next chapter. His decision to separate from Aguiar was reportedly part of a broader desire to leave Lisbon completely, with Arsenal as the only club he is currently interested in joining. While Aguiar traveled to the Spanish island of Formentera, Gyokeres spent his holiday in Mykonos, Greece. Sporting manager Ruben Amorim, now at Manchester United, was also interested in bringing Gyokeres to Old Trafford, but the player rejected that option as well. He was reportedly frustrated after Sporting’s president Frederico Varandas denied any agreement on a £60 million release clause. Varandas has insisted he won’t be pressured by “blackmail or insults,” even as Gyokeres refuses to join pre-season activities. Arsenal have already made major moves this summer with the signings of Kepa and Martin Zubimendi. Adding a prolific striker like Gyokeres would complete a strong window for Arteta. Despite his earlier struggles at Brighton, the striker has proven himself at Sporting and in the Championship with Coventry, and he’s now ready for another shot in England’s top flight. With all parties closing in on a final agreement, Gyokeres’ move to the Premier League looks imminentpossibly even before Arsenal fly out for their Asia tour.
