Ghanaian Fury Over Igbo Traditional Ruler Installation in Ningo-Prampram

A storm of controversy has erupted in Ghana as reports surfaced that Nigerians of Igbo descent in Ningo-Prampram have installed a traditional ruler, sparking widespread outrage among Ghanaian netizens. The newly crowned leader, styled as "Eze (Dr) Ambassador Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu, Eze Ohazurume 1, Eze Ndi Igbo Ghana," has ignited tensions with plans to establish an Igbo village on a 50-acre plot in Old Ningo, within the Ningo-Prampram Constituency, according to a widely circulated video.

Social media platforms are ablaze with reactions of shock, disapproval, and anger, as many Ghanaians view the move as an overreach by the Igbo community. The installation of an "Eze Ndi Igbo Ghana" is seen by some as an attempt to assert authority on Ghanaian soil, prompting fierce debates about cultural boundaries and national sovereignty.

In response, Sam George, Ghana’s Minister of Communications, has urged citizens to remain calm, firmly stating that no individual or group is permitted to lay claim to any kingdom in Ghana. His call for restraint aims to diffuse escalating tensions as authorities address the situation.

The controversy has fueled discussions about diaspora communities’ roles and rights in Ghana, with many calling for dialogue to prevent further conflict. As the debate rages on, the nation watches closely for resolution.
