Ernest Kumi, Member of Parliament for Ghana’s Akwatia constituency, has passed away at the age of 41, just seven months into his first term in office. The young lawmaker reportedly died on Monday, July 7, after being rushed to the hospital in the early hours of the morning, complaining of severe chest pains. While the exact cause of death remains unconfirmed, news of his passing has shocked many across the country.
Kumi rose to national attention after securing a hard-fought electoral victory in 2024. His sudden death comes only weeks after the Supreme Court overturned a contempt conviction related to the disputed election results that brought him into office.
