South African MP Liam Jacobs Stuns Nation with Defection from DA to Patriotic Alliance

 

In a stunning political twist, 24-year-old Member of Parliament Liam Jacobs has left South Africa’s Democratic Alliance (DA) to join the Patriotic Alliance (PA), sparking widespread attention across the country. The Gauteng representative’s defection follows a fiery clash with PA leader Gayton McKenzie during a recent portfolio committee session in Parliament.

Jacobs, who was elected to the National Assembly in the 2024 general election, previously led the Democratic Alliance Students Organisation (DASO) since October 2022. His abrupt move to the PA marks a significant shift in South Africa’s political landscape, raising questions about the young MP’s future and the DA’s influence.
