Ghana’s Special Prosecutor Re-Declares Ken Ofori-Atta Wanted, Initiates Interpol Red Notice Over Corruption Allegations

On June 2, 2025, Ghana’s former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, was once again declared a wanted individual by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), intensifying a high-profile investigation into alleged corruption during his tenure. This marks the second time Ofori-Atta has been placed on the wanted list, following his initial designation in February 2025, after he failed to appear for questioning on charges related to multiple corruption and procurement-related cases. The OSP, led by Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, has now escalated the matter by initiating an Interpol Red Notice to locate and provisionally arrest Ofori-Atta for extradition, signaling a determined effort to bring him back to Ghana to face justice.

The renewed declaration stems from Ofori-Atta’s failure to physically attend a scheduled interrogation on June 2, 2025, despite prior assurances from his legal team that he would comply by the end of May. Agyebeng, addressing the media in Accra, dismissed attempts by Ofori-Atta’s lawyers to arrange a virtual interview, emphasizing that the former minister’s physical presence is non-negotiable. The OSP is investigating Ofori-Atta over five major cases, including controversial contractual arrangements between Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited and the Ghana Revenue Authority, the termination of a contract with Beijing Xiao Cheng Technology, procurement issues tied to the National Cathedral project, a Ministry of Health ambulance contract, and the management of funds from the GRA’s Tax P-Fund Account. The case has sparked widespread discussion across Ghana, with reactions on platforms like X reflecting public frustration and calls for accountability,  as the pursuit of Ofori-Atta underscores the OSP’s commitment to tackling high-level corruption.

Mayo Clinic is now making wave again because the medical facility located in Rochester, Minnesota, USA, has written a letter revealing that former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has been diagnosed with prostate cancer and is scheduled to undergo surgery on 13 June. The letter revealing the alleged health status of the former Finance Minister comes after he was redeclared wanted by the Special Prosecutor.
