On May 22, 2013 – Fusilier Lee Rigby is murdered by 2 Islamic extremists in Woolwich, Southeast London.

On May 22, 2013, British Army soldier Fusilier Lee Rigby was brutally murdered in broad daylight on the streets of Woolwich, Southeast London. Rigby, a 25-year-old soldier of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers who had served in Afghanistan, was returning to his barracks when he was struck by a car and then attacked by two men armed with knives and a meat cleaver. The attackers, later identified as Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale, targeted Rigby specifically because of his association with the British military. The murder occurred near the Royal Artillery Barracks and was witnessed by multiple horrified bystanders.
