Iran Executes Man Accused of Spying for Israel

Iran has executed Mohsen Langarneshin, reportedly convicted of espionage and cooperation with Israel’s Mossad, the country’s judiciary announced on Wednesday. The execution comes at a sensitive time, amid high-stakes nuclear talks between the United States and Iran. Iran frequently accuses individuals of links to Israel’s intelligence agency, especially those believed to have facilitated sabotage, assassinations, and attacks targeting Iran’s nuclear program. According to Iran’s judiciary media outlet, Mizan, Langarneshin was involved in several notable incidents, including the death of a Revolutionary Guards colonel in 2022.

Iranian officials stated that Langarneshin confessed to the charges, which included supporting terrorist operations, being present at the scene of the assassination of Sayad Khodai, and providing operational support for an attack on an industrial facility in Isfahan linked to the Ministry of Defence. The execution underscores Iran’s ongoing shadow war with Israel, which involves acts of sabotage, espionage, and targeted killings within Iran. Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi recently accused Israel of trying to derail Iran-U.S. nuclear negotiations. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, on the other hand, has rejected any agreement that would limit Iran's uranium enrichment and has called for the complete dismantling of Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.
