The Lagos State Government has slated 30th July 2024 for the demolition of one of the largest markets in the state, Oshodi Market. The proposed date of demolition was revealed by the General Manager, Lagos State Building Control Agency, Gbolahan Oki, while speaking to members of the press on Monday 27 May, 2024. The General Manager also urged traders without a building plan approval to leverage the 90-day amnesty period given by the governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Emphasizing the importance and collective benefits of the scheduled demolition, Mr Oki stated that a form of change was necessary for the growth of the state and its residents, thus the need for all involved parties to comply with rules and regulations. In his words: "We want change, it is going to affect us, and we are going to have that change at all costs. People selling on the road is unnecessary, and that is what we are trying to put in place; it is not a tribal issue. We must all comply with the rules and regulations.”
