A Catholic priest identified as Reverend Fr Stephen Nwaigwe, has been remanded at The Chief Magistrate's Court in Awka, Anambra state for allegedly raping and impregnating a fourteen year old girl. The priest was also accused of forcefully taking the pregnant minor to Benin City, Edo State where she was delivered of the baby but police investigation reveals the whereabouts of the baby remains unknown. Narrating her ordeal at the magistrate court, the victim revealed that the priest had taken her from her parents with the promise of sponsoring her education in exchange for her services as domestic help. The victim further stated the priest's sexual abused commenced almost immediately she arrived at his home and continued for three years during which she turned 17 and became pregnant with his child.

Reports from the Catholic Church reveal that Stephen Nwaigwe who paraded himself as a priest, was one of the priest's expelled by a popular Catholic Faith-Based Religious Congregation in Orlu, Imo State, known as the Two Hearts of Love Congregation” (Ugwu Nso) in 2018, for alleged misconduct inimical to the image of the order. However, despite his dismissal from the priesthood, Nwaigwe has continued to carry out religious activities on the invitation of groups and organizations and acting like a still recognised clergyman.
