Bisi Alimi Commemorates 19 Years of Being HIV Positive

 Nigerian gay rights activist and public speaker Bisi Alimi, has put up a post on his official social media platform commemorating the date which he discovered that he was HIV Positive. According to his post, on this day 19 years ago, he had walked into an HIV testing booth in Abuja and came out positive. Bisi Alimi who penned that the discovery of his HIV Positive status changed his life forever, as 19 years later, he's still alive and thriving. The gay rights activist further revealed that after testing positive in 2004, he had gone 5 years without any sort of medication  as they hadn't been many cases of people living with HIV at the time.

According to Bisi Alimi, he had been on the verge of death when he had walked into a clinic in 2009. He expressed gratitude to the doctor who took charge of his situation and ensured that he received proper medication. The gay rights activist credited medication, love and a determination to live as reason of being alive till date. He also stated that he refused to let shame rule his life. 48 year old Bisi Alimi is a gay rights activist, public speaker, blog writer and HIV/LGBT advocate who gained international attention when he became the first Nigerian to come out on television. He founded the Bisi Alimi Foundation in 2015 to accelerate social acceptance for LGBT in Nigeria. Bisi Alimi resides in London.
