Lwemiyaga is making waves in Uganda because the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) primaries held on July 17, 2025, resulted in a stunning upset: Brigadier General (Rtd.) Emmanuel Rwashande defeated long-standing MP Theodore Ssekikubo to claim the NRM flag for Lwemiyaga County, securing 16,358 votes (54.3%) against Ssekikubo’s 8,702.
The announcement on July 18 sparked widespread reactions, marking the end of Ssekikubo’s 20-year tenure.
Rwashande’s success sends ripples through Uganda’s political landscape, especially as Ssekikubo has already rejected the results, alleging intimidation, army interference, abductions, and manipulation of voter registers.
