Speaking against the backdrop of recent allegations by the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) over anti-union practices, Dangote disclosed that the rollout of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) trucks from his refinery will generate about 24,000 new jobs, with drivers earning nearly four times the national minimum wage.
His comments come amid renewed public scrutiny of Dangote’s drivers following the widely discussed Phyna sister incident, which raised concerns about driver welfare, pay structures, and safety standards. This makes his disclosure about high salaries particularly striking for many Nigerians.
