According to the report, exam malpractice was facilitated through bribes, leaked answers, and the use of mobile phones and AI tools. At two centres in Accra, invigilators allegedly demanded daily payments of GHS60, while supervisors accepted envelopes of GHS400. Teachers and headteachers reportedly moved freely inside exam halls, openly assisting candidates. Some students even turned to AI platforms such as ChatGPT to generate answers during the test.
Civil society groups have warned that such practices risk entrenching dishonesty in Ghana’s educational system, undermining merit and credibility.
In response, the Acting GES Director-General has vowed that any teacher or official found complicit in the malpractice will face dismissal, stressing the need to protect the integrity of the nation’s examinations.
