How much sugar should I consume daily to protect my liver?

World Health Organization (WHO):

Recommends limiting added sugars to less than 10% of your total daily calories. For most adults, that’s about 50 grams (12 teaspoons) per day. For extra health benefits, they suggest going below 25 grams (6 teaspoons) per day.

American Heart Association (AHA):

Stricter guideline, men should aim for ≤36 grams (9 teaspoons) per day, and women ≤25 grams (6 teaspoons).

For liver health: The safest approach is to stay on the low end of these ranges, because studies show that excess fructose (especially from sodas, fruit juices, and processed foods) is strongly linked to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
