Nathaniel’s podium finish came under dramatic circumstances after American star Rai Benjamin was disqualified for displacing a hurdle and obstructing another athlete. The disqualification reshaped the final standings, paving the way for Nathaniel’s breakthrough achievement.

His medal marks a watershed moment for Nigerian athletics, as no athlete from the country had reached the World Championships podium in the 400m hurdles before. The last to make a final was Henry Amike, who finished sixth in 1987.

Nathaniel’s resilience, speed, and composure under pressure have not only earned him international recognition but also reignited hopes for Nigeria’s future in track and field.
