Incredible - Salah reacts to winning record-breaking third PFA POTY

Mohamed Salah has officially cemented his legacy as one of the Premier League’s all-time greats after winning the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award for a record-breaking third time. The Egyptian forward enjoyed a phenomenal 2024-25 campaign, firing Liverpool to their record-equalling 20th league title. Salah contributed 34 goals and 23 assists in 52 appearances across all competitions, making it arguably the most complete season of his career. His 18 Premier League assists were only surpassed in history by Kevin De Bruyne and Thierry Henry.

At 33 years old, Salah became the first player in history to win three of these prestigious awards, surpassing legends who had managed two. He was joined in the PFA Team of the Year by Liverpool teammates Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch, and Alexis Mac Allister, underlining the Reds’ dominance. The achievement adds to a career already filled with silverware and personal accolades, yet Salah insists he remains hungry for more. His incredible season has not only strengthened Liverpool’s standing but also written another chapter in his personal story of perseverance and success. For Salah, the award represents more than statistics it marks the fulfilment of a journey few thought possible.

Receiving the award from Liverpool icon Ian Rush, Mohamed Salah used the moment to reflect on his journey from a young hopeful in Egypt to one of world football’s biggest stars. He admitted that doubts from his early struggles at Chelsea never left his mind but said those experiences shaped his determination. Salah told fans that achieving this honour at the age of 33 was “incredible,” considering where his career once stood. He described last season as his “best ever” and stressed that both Liverpool’s Premier League triumph and his personal form were reasons for pride. Despite the individual recognition, Salah’s hunger remains strong. He explained that finding ways to stay motivated and striving for more success is what continues to drive him at this stage of his career. The wider awards also saw Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers crowned PFA Young Player of the Year and Barcelona’s Mariona Caldentey claim the WSL prize, showing the breadth of talent being recognised. Looking ahead, Salah now turns his focus to Liverpool’s 2025-26 campaign. The Reds have already started strongly with a win over Bournemouth and next face Newcastle. Liverpool will once again look to Salah’s leadership and brilliance as they aim to defend their crown.
