Shauwn “MaMkhize” Mkhize, a prominent South African entrepreneur and owner of the Royal AM football club, is under intense public and legal scrutiny following the discovery of over 40 illegal firearms at her Durban mansion.
The weapons, seized during a police raid eight months ago in November 2024, have been confirmed by the Portfolio Committee on Police to belong to a private security company owned by Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, a controversial businessman and alleged associate of Police Minister Senzo Mchunu.
The revelation has sparked widespread criticism and debate across South Africa, with many netizens demanding MaMkhize’s immediate arrest due to her apparent connection to Matlala’s company. The firearms, which included rifles and pistols, were reportedly linked to criminal activities, intensifying public outrage and raising questions about the extent of MaMkhize’s involvement.
Some social media users have expressed shock at the findings, with posts on X highlighting the gravity of the situation and questioning how such a large cache of weapons ended up in her residence.Matlala, a tenderpreneur facing charges of attempted murder and money laundering, has been implicated in broader allegations of corruption and ties to a criminal syndicate, as revealed by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi during a recent press briefing.
These allegations also point to Matlala’s connections with high-ranking officials, including Mchunu, further complicating the controversy surrounding MaMkhize. The public outcry and calls for accountability reflect growing concerns about the intersection of wealth, influence, and alleged criminal activity in South Africa’s elite circles
