New Russian Ambassador to the US Promises to Work Toward Restoring Relations The newly appointed Russian ambassador to the United States, Alexander Darchiev, stated that he is committed to working to fully restore and improve relations between Moscow and Washington. He officially presented his credentials to President Donald Trump on Wednesday. Darchiev expressed optimism, saying, "Russia and the United States are destined, as great powers, to have a non-confrontational peaceful existence." He also conveyed to Trump that the Russian embassy under his leadership aims to bring relations back to normality and common sense.

He noted that his meeting with Trump was brief due to protocol, but described their discussion as "very constructive." Darchiev has previous diplomatic experience in the U.S. and served as ambassador to Canada from 2014 to 2021. Relations between the two countries have been strained, especially following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which led to low points in US-Russia ties. However, there have been recent efforts to engage in pragmatic discussions to address various conflicts and issues.
