Middlesbrough Parts Ways with Michael Carrick After Missing Out on Playoffs

Middlesbrough Football Club has parted ways with manager Michael Carrick after nearly three years in charge.

The former Manchester United midfielder met with club executives, including owner Steve Gibson, on Wednesday morning, where the decision was finalised.

Despite initial success, Carrick failed to secure promotion to the Premier League, prompting the club to move in a new direction with two years left on his contract.

Carrick guided Boro to the play-offs in his debut season, but back-to-back underwhelming finishes followed. This season, they ended 10th, missing out on the top six.

His coaching staff, including brother Graeme Carrick and ex-England defender Jonathan Woodgate, also exit. Factors like transfer disagreements and staff departures may have contributed. Speculation now surrounds potential replacements, including Rob Edwards, Steve Cooper, and Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Röhl.
