The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) in Kenya has initiated an investigation into the death of Albert Omondi Ojwang, a 29-year-old blogger who died while in police custody. The circumstances surrounding Ojwang's death have raised concerns, prompting IPOA to probe the matter and ensure accountability
Arrested over a social media post in Homa Bay, Ojwang was later moved to Nairobi. His family disputes police claims of suicide, demanding an impartial probe into possible abuse during his detention.

Ojwang was allegedly arrested at home during lunch and accused of insulting a senior official on X. He was held in Mawego before being moved overnight to Nairobi’s Central Police Station.
Police claim he fatally injured himself, but his family doubts the story. IPOA has interviewed DCI officers, visited the scene, and plans a post-mortem. Findings may lead to DPP action if criminal liability is established.
