The 2015 assassination of Ugandan prosecutor Joan Kagezi has captured attention in Kenya due to renewed investigations and the arraignment of a fifth suspect, Abdu Noor Ssemujju, alias Minana, on June 24, 2025. Ssemujju, a former Special Police Constable in the Flying Squad Unit, collapsed during his court appearance in Kampala’s Nakawa Chief Magistrates Court, alleging torture and claiming he had not eaten for four days.

He appealed to former police chief Gen. Kale Kayihura, escalating public interest. Fresh witness testimonies implicating high-ranking security officials, alongside the conviction of UPDF deserter Daniel Kisekka, who confessed and provided critical details, have reignited the case. Kagezi, a senior state attorney, was shot dead on March 30, 2015, in Kiwatule, Kampala, while driving with her children, reportedly for her role in prosecuting terrorism cases. Ssemujju, previously detained in 2017 and released, was remanded to Luzira Prison until July 8, 2025. The case has fueled discussions in Kenya about justice, law enforcement impunity, and accountability.
