(In South Africa) Devastating Floods Ravage Mthatha, Eastern Cape, Prompting Urgent Rescue and Relief Efforts

 

Mthatha, a city in South Africa’s Eastern Cape Province, is grappling with severe flooding that has submerged properties and left numerous residents stranded on rooftops and in trees above swollen rivers. The deluge, which struck on June 9, 2025, caused widespread destruction, displacing families and damaging infrastructure across the region.

The Eastern Cape Department of Health is collaborating with provincial disaster management teams and the South African National Defence Force to deploy additional resources for rescue and relief operations. Efforts are underway to assist affected communities and provide urgent support to those impacted by the crisis, as authorities work to mitigate the ongoing emergency.
