21-Year-Old Arrested in Seattle Athlete Robbery Ring Targeting NFL, MLB Stars Key clue emerges from new video of Seattle burglary ring after suspect, 21, arrested for 'robbing NFL, MLB stars' A major breakthrough in the Seattle burglary ring case came from video evidence shared by former Seattle Seahawks star Richard Sherman on X in March 2025. The footage, captured during a burglary at Sherman’s home, shows three masked men escaping through a window, two carrying bags. This evidence helped lead to the arrest of 21-year-old Earl Riley IV on June 6, 2025, who is now charged with multiple burglaries targeting professional athletes. Riley, suspected as the ringleader, faces four counts of residential burglary and one count of first-degree robbery. The crimes, spanning February to May 2025, hit the homes of Seattle Mariners players Julio Rodriguez and Luis Castillo, former Seahawk Richard Sherman, and Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Blake Snell. An attempted burglary at baseball Hall of Famer Edgar Martinez’s home is also linked to Riley. Stolen items included over $194,000 in luxury purses and jewelry from Rodriguez’s home, $6,000 in Louis Vuitton bags from Castillo’s, and watches valued at over $100,000 from Sherman’s. No items were taken from Snell’s residence. Most stolen goods were recovered from Riley’s home or family members, with cellphone data placing him near the crime scenes. Riley is currently held in King County Jail on $1 million bail, with an arraignment set for June 16, 2025. Authorities believe he was part of a larger organized crime ring targeting athletes, a growing trend noted by the FBI and sports leagues. The investigation continues to identify other suspects involved in the sophisticated scheme. This case highlights the vulnerability of high-profile athletes and the importance of video evidence in cracking complex criminal operations.
