Olympic 100m medallist Kerley arrested in Miami

Olympic 100m medalist Fred Kerley, who won silver in 2020 and bronze in 2024, was arrested in Miami on May 1, 2025, for allegedly punching his ex girlfriend, Olympic hurdler Alaysha Johnson, at a Dania Beach hotel.

The incident occurred days before the Grand Slam Track meet, where Kerley was scheduled to compete in the 100m and 200m. According to the police report, Johnson stated Kerley hit her with a closed fist, causing her nose to bleed, following an argument. Kerley was charged with battery, touch or strike, and released on May 2 after posting a $1,000 bond. His attorney, Richard Cooper, called the case meritless, anticipating dismissal, and emphasized Kerley’s focus on returning to competition.

Grand Slam Track confirmed Kerley’s withdrawal from the Miami event, with sprinter Brandon Hicklin taking his place. This marks Kerley’s second arrest in 2025. In January, he was detained in Miami Beach after a dispute with police over accessing his parked car, leading to charges of battery on an officer, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct. He was released on his own recognizance, but earlier charges from May 2024 for robbery and domestic battery involving his wife, Angelica Taylor, resurfaced. Kerley pleaded not guilty to all charges.
