An 18-year-old apprentice has reportedly impregnated ten girls within a span of five months, including his master’s daughter and a salesgirl in Anambra State. The young man was initially sent to learn a trade under a master, but after only three months, he impregnated both the master’s daughter and a salesgirl, leading to his dismissal from the apprenticeship. According to reports, after being sent away from his apprenticeship, the boy returned to his village, and the situation worsened. In those two months, he impregnated eight additional girls in the community. The situation has caused concern among residents and authorities alike. The state’s Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, disclosed these details in a live video on social media on Wednesday. She explained that the matter was beyond her capacity to handle and publicly called for advice and solutions from the public. She stated, “I want advice from the public because this one is beyond my capacity. This boy was sent to learn a trade at the age of 18 and three months of apprenticeship, and he impregnated his master’s daughter and his salesgirl. He was sent packing. Two months after that, he impregnated eight other girls in the village.”

Obinabo further revealed that the boy’s mother visited her office to report the incident, expressing her distress. The mother reportedly said, “Anytime I see a girl coming towards our house nowadays, my heart would jump, please, I need help.” She questioned whether the issue could be spiritual, saying, “This matter is beyond me, the reason I want the public to help me come up with a solution. Is it spiritual?” The commissioner also asked the boy how he was able to convince the girls, to which he reportedly responded that he always told them he loved them and wanted to marry them once he obtained wealth. Obinabo did not reveal the names of the boy, his mother, or their community, but she urged the public to suggest possible solutions, highlighting the seriousness of the situation involving multiple pregnancies and the young age of the offender.
