Israeli strike kills 29 people in Gaza City house, medics say
A devastating Israeli airstrike hit a residential building in Shejaia, Gaza City, killing at least 29 Palestinians, including children, and wounding dozens more. The attack damaged nearby houses, with many still trapped under the rubble. The Israeli military claimed the strike targeted a senior Hamas militant responsible for planning attacks in northern Gaza, but local health authorities reported nine other Palestinians were killed in separate strikes, bringing Wednesday's death toll to 38.

Escalating Conflict and Humanitarian Crisis
This attack is part of Israel's resumed bombardment of Gaza, which began on March 18 after a two-month truce. Since then, nearly 1,500 Palestinians have been killed, according to the Hamas-run Gaza health ministry. The conflict has displaced hundreds of thousands, with many fearing the creation of a "security zone" around the enclave's edges might lead to permanent depopulation. The situation is catastrophic, with the Indonesian Hospital in Beit Lahia receiving 19 bodies after a single night of strikes.
Failed Ceasefire Talks and International Concerns
Ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas have stalled, with both sides trading blame. Arab mediators Qatar and Egypt, backed by the US, are working to restore calm, but so far, no agreement has been reached. The conflict, which began with Hamas fighters killing 1,200 people in southern Israel and taking 250 hostages in October 2023, has now resulted in over 50,800 Palestinian deaths, according to Palestinian authorities. The international community is growing increasingly concerned about the disproportionate violence against women and children in Gaza.
