(In Latvian) Ostapenko Beats Swiatek, Advances to Semifinals


Jelena Ostapenko is making wave in Global Sports because the Latvian tennis player is currently receiving praise for defeating Polish tennis player, Iga Swiatek for the 6th time in her career (first time on clay). 

Jelena Ostapenko won 6-3-6 over Iga's 3-6-2 to reach the semifinal of the Stuttgart 500.

Jelena Ostapenko has career-high rankings of world No. 5 in women's singles and world No. 4 in women's doubles by the WTA.

The professional tennis player has won eight WTA Tour-level singles and ten doubles titles, including a singles major at the 2017 French Open and a doubles major at the 2024 US Open, partnering Lyudmyla Kichenok. She is the first Latvian to win a major in singles or in doubles.
