A devastating helicopter crash into the Hudson River has claimed the lives of six individuals, including a family of five Spanish tourists and the pilot. The victims have been identified as Agustín Escobar, CEO of Siemens Spain, his wife Merce Camprubi Montal, and their three children, aged 4, 5, and 11. The family was on a sightseeing tour in New York City when the tragedy occurred.

Details of the Crash

The helicopter, a Bell 206L-4 LongRanger IV, crashed into the Hudson River on Thursday afternoon, around 3:15 p.m.Witnesses reported hearing a loud noise, likened to a sonic boom, before seeing the helicopter split in half mid-air and plummet into the river.The helicopter was in the air for approximately 15 minutes before the crash, which occurred while it was flying over the Hudson River.





Investigation and Response

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, with speculation of a catastrophic mechanical failure.Aviation lawyer Justin Green believes the pilot had no control over the aircraft once the failure occurred, making it impossible to prevent the accident.Emergency responders recovered the wreckage from the river late Thursday night, with Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop calling for changes to tourist helicopter operations in the area due to overcrowding concerns.
