As a result of the Ministry of Sports Development's dissolution, the National Sports Commission will assume its responsibilities. This transition is expected to bring about a more focused and effective approach to sports development in Nigeria. The Commission will oversee the country's sports programs, infrastructure development, and athlete welfare.
The FEC has also approved several mergers and acquisitions to reduce the number of federal agencies and minimize duplication of functions. Key changes include:
- The Ministry of Tourism will merge with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy.
- The National Agency for the Control of Aids (NACA) will join the Centre for Disease Control in the Federal Ministry of Health.
- The National Emergency Agency (NEMA) will merge with the National Commission Refugee, Migration and Internally Displaced persons (NCFRMI).
To eliminate unnecessary expenses, the FEC has scrapped several agencies, including:
- Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate
- National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC)
To enhance operational efficiency, the FEC has relocated several agencies:
- Niger Delta Powerholding Company (NDHC) will now fall under the Ministry of Power.
- National Agricultural Land Development Agency (NALDA) will be overseen by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.
A new Ministry of Regional Development has been created to oversee all regional development commissions, including:
- Niger Delta Development Commission
- North West Development Commission
- South West Development Commission
- North East Development Commission
These changes aim to:
- Improve governance efficiency
- Reduce the financial burden of maintaining multiple agencies
- Enhance accountability and transparency
- Foster a more coordinated approach to national development
