Yahaya Bello Evades EFCC Arrest Again, Governor Ododo Involved.

Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello allegedly evaded capture by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) once again on Wednesday, with the help of his successor, Governor Usman Ododo. This isn't the first time Ododo has assisted Bello in avoiding arrest, as a similar incident occurred in April 2024 .


The EFCC had surrounded the Kogi State Government Lodge in Abuja in an attempt to arrest Bello over allegations of an N80.2 billion fraud. However, Governor Ododo reportedly intervened, using his immunity as a sitting governor to prevent the EFCC operatives from completing their task .

 

Thanks to the intervention of Governor Usman Ododo, who allegedly utilized his immunity as a sitting governor to shield Bello from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) operatives . This isn't the first time Ododo has helped Bello avoid arrest.

Bello is facing charges related to an alleged N80.2 billion fraud and money laundering scheme, alongside his nephew Ali Bello, Dauda Suleiman, and Abdulsalam Hudu . The EFCC has been trying to bring him to court, but his absence has stalled the arraignment process .


The EFCC's efforts to serve Bello with charges have been met with resistance, with his lawyer, Abdulwahab Muhammed, declining to accept the charges on his behalf . The commission has denied disobeying any court orders regarding Bello's arrest .

Bello has been under investigation by the EFCC for his alleged involvement in the misappropriation of public funds during his tenure as governor. The commission declared him wanted in April 2024 for money laundering charges .
