Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has thrown down the gauntlet, challenging any member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to publicly accuse him of being a mole or engaging in anti-party activities on national television. This bold statement was made during his appearance on Channels Television's Politics Today program on Friday .
Wike's defiance comes amidst internal party conflicts and allegations of moles within the PDP. He's essentially saying, "Put your money where your mouth is" - if anyone has evidence of his alleged wrongdoing, they should come forward and prove it on live TV.
It's worth noting that Wike has been at odds with some PDP governors, particularly Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State, whom he recently vowed not to support in his political life again . The tension between Wike and Fubara has been escalating, with Wike even threatening to take drastic action against any PDP governor who interferes in their dispute .
Nyesom Wike's statement provides clarity on his appointment as FCT Minister under President Bola Tinubu's government:
Key points:
1. Wike informed PDP at all levels (ward, national, zonal, and state) before accepting the appointment.
2. He obtained approval from his governor and PDP zonal leadership.
3. Wike emphasizes transparency, stating he never hid his intentions.
4. He challenges PDP members to deny nominating individuals for appointments under Tinubu's government.
5. Wike asserts his independence, refusing to be used or manipulated.
He also noted that despite the allegations of anti-party activities against him, he delivered the governorship and National Assembly slots for Rivers State during the 2023 general elections, adding that his delivery was a testament to his leadership.
“In 2023, did I not say I won’t support you for President? Did I do it at the back? Did I not say I won’t support this, it’s not fair, it’s against equity, it’s against justice. Did I do it at the back? Did the PDP not win the governorship, did the PDP not win the national assembly? Did they not win the state assembly?
“I challenge any of them, let us see in any of these states they are criticising whether they have a 100 per cent as we have. What does that tell you? Leadership,” he declared.
The PDP's internal dynamics are clearly complex, and Wike's challenge is likely to stir up more controversy. Will anyone take him up on his offer and publicly accuse him of being a mole? Only time will tell.
