A Catholic priest named Pawel Bielecki, has be outed by the police for squandering 650,000 dollars of donated funds on his lavish lifestyle. Father Bielecki had originally raised the funds over a period of 8 years by claiming to be a doctor with multiple PhDs and in charge of medical clinics in Lebanon while he was fully resident in New York and spent the money on "heavenly meals", a gym membership, trips to The Hamptons and plastic surgery.

Prosecutors say Pawel Bielecki, known to most as "Father Paul", even lied about being injured in the 2020 Beirut chemical explosion, which killed 218 people, to further swindle donors. The Southern District of New York found that Bielecki had left the US between December 2019 and April 2022 and during the time he told patrons he was injured, he was actually making purchases at coffee shops and restaurants in New York City, where he lives. Pawel Bielecki was arrested on August 17 and faces charges that could put him behind bars.
