Jealous Husband Who Killed Wife with Son's Skateboard Gets 17-Year Sentence

A husband who fatally attacked his wife with a skateboard has been sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 17 years.

The man identified as Olubunmi Abodunde used the skateboard to inflict severe head injuries on his wife, Taiwo, resulting in her death.

The attack occurred on November 28, 2022, at their home in Newmarket, Suffolk.

Police officers arrived at the scene after responding to a domestic violence incident the previous day.

They heard loud banging noises coming from inside the property but waited 35 minutes for permission to enter.

Upon entering, they found Mrs. Abodunde, 41, with severe head injuries.

A post-mortem examination revealed she had been strangled and suffered broken ribs and skull fractures.

Abodunde claimed he acted in self-defense, alleging his wife had physically abused him for years and attacked him with a knife on the day of the incident.

However, no knife was found near the scene, and his injury was inconsistent with his account.

The judge described the attack as "ferocious, ruthless, cold-blooded, callous, and savage."

Abodunde had a history of jealousy and suspicion throughout their marriage, accusing his wife of infidelity.

The couple had moved to the UK from Nigeria in 2022 and had clashed over financial issues.

Three police officers are under investigation for misconduct related to their response to the incident.

The case has had a significant impact on the community and the victim's family.
