"I Did Not Ask Anybody to Pay for Asoebi" LG Chairperson Denies Extortion Accusation

Chairperson of Ikosi Isheri Local Council Development Area of Lagos state, Mrs Samiat Abolanle Bada, has vehemently denied allegations of extortion allegedly levelled against her by members of her staff. According to reports, Mrs Bada had allegedly mandated her employees to buy fabrics (aso ebi) worth #650,000 naira in order to attend her upcoming 50th birthday party. In an invitation card making the rounds on the internet, the birthday party slated for 28th December 2023, was tagged #Bolanle pepperdem@50. The card also contained instructions clearly prohibiting sharing of the aso ebi fabric as well as the fabric being a requirement to gain entry to the party.

Speaking to the press, Mrs Bada firmly denied the claim of mandating her employees to purchase fabrics worth the alleged sum. She also denied issuing a formal invitation to the forthcoming party to members of her staff. In her words:  “These allegations are completely false and baseless. Since assuming office, I have prioritised my staff’s welfare and working conditions.” Mrs Bada however admitted that her friends and associates resident abroad were the ones who decided amongst themselves to choose the N650,000 fabric as a way to celebrate her birthday
