President Tinubu To Address Nigerians In A Broadcast Today At 7pm

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will today, Monday, 31, July at 7pm address Nigerians in a national broadcast. This is coming amidst a show of anger by many who have been affected by the rise in cost of living since he assumed office about two months ago and the intention of the labour unions to go on nationwide protests.

Presidential spokesperson to Tinubu, Dele Alake urged both television and radio stations to link up for broadcast signal with the Nigerian Television Authority, NTA and Federal Radio Corporation, FRCN.

“Television, radio stations and other electronic media outlets are enjoined to hook up to the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority and Radio Nigeria for the broadcast” Alake said

Many believe that the President will be announcing the measures he has put in place to help cushion the economic effects of removal of fuel subsidy that caused the prices of goods and services to surge and also to ask for continuous support of the citizenry for his ‘ongoing economic reforms’.

Recall that last friday, The leadership of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC  led by its president Joe Ajaero angrily left a meeting with representatives of the Federal Government which was organised with the aim of discussing issues around palliatives to cushion removal subsidy effects. The reason for the labour officials leaving the meeting isn’t known at this time neither did The NLC team speak to journalists on why they abandoned the meeting.

.However, a former President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Peter Esele, has said that it will be difficult for the Federal Government to stop labour from carrying out its planned protest regarding the fuel subsidy removal.

“And the other option for the government is that they should come out and say ‘This is what we are doing’. You just saw one of their demands which is that government should invest in CNG.I also have my worry about the protest and the strike but the challenge now is that even the organised labour will be up against the leadership for them to do something. So, the Federal Government has not done enough in allowing labour to go this far,”  he said.
