25 year old Nouhaila Benzina has made world history by becoming the first woman to wear a hijab in a World Cup game at the senior level. The 25 year old Moroccan defender wore the Islamic head covering during her appearance in the South Korea VS Morocco on Sunday at the Coopers Stadium in Hindmarsh, South Australia where her country won 1-0 against South Korea.

FIFA had previously banned the use of a hijab during games citing concerns about player safety. Despite potential discomfort, Nouhaila proudly wears the hijab and has been doing so for years. She has expressed her satisfaction with wearing it and the hijab has been a constant part of her attire while playing for different clubs and during training with the Moroccan national team.FIFA has now recognized the right for players to wear the hijab, so Benzina's impact in this tournament could go beyond her performance on the field and extend to inspiring girls and players who wish to represent their national teams while adhering to their beliefs and customs.
