Newly Inaugurated Governor of Abia State Halts Transport Levies With Immediate Effect

 Newly Inaugurated Governor of Abia State Alex Chioma Otti has suspended all transport levies imposed on commercial drivers in the state by the government. The governor stated that this announcement was in line with his campaign promise to sanitize methods of revenue collection in the state. He further stated that the suspension is to take immediate effect and will remain until the levies are reviewed and public arrangement made for the smooth, organised and transparent collection of the aforementioned levies. Governor Alex Otti urged everyone involved in the collection of the levies to immediately desist from further collection as security agents have been briefed and directed to apprehend any person who violates the directive.

Alex Otti is a Nigerian economist, banker, investor, philanthropist and politician, serving as the current Governor of Abia State in Nigeria. He is from Isiala-ngwa and on May 29 2023, succeeded Okezie Ikpeazu as governor of the state. Alex Otti contested and won the Abia state governorship election under the Labour Party and was the first to win a gubernatorial position under the rebranded Labour Party in the 2023 governorship elections conducted in the month of March.
