Video: Police sprays tear gas at Okada riders in Ojodu Berger

After the Okada ban announced by the governor of Lagos State Babajide Sanwo-Olu during a meeting with police chiefs in the state on May 18th, 2022 , the aftermath effects on the Okada riders has been devastating. It took effect on June first of 2022 across the highways and bridges within six local governments and their local council development areas.

Today at Ojodu Berger there were bikes that were impounded by the authorities to make sure the Okada ban is effected. Hundreds of motorcycles were carted away by the police unit with bikers running helter-skelter.

The video below is what the popular okada park has turned into, deserted and almost empty. The Okada riders are seen discussing how they would either be able to find another base for their business and recover their motorcycles  from the authorities.

One of the men who was affected by the raid spoke to our correspondent that before the motorcycles were seized, tear gas was sprayed in the air which made some of them left their bikes that was taken. He said he chooses to be anonymous and only looking for a way to get his okada back since that is his only source of income.

Napeps, buses, cars are the only automobiles plighting the road after this incident today. Passengers too were seen loitering around trying to accept the new reality and looking for the next way out.
