The Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP)has released a video claiming responsibility for the Kuje Prison attack. The video was released on the night of 6 July, 2022. The video shows the terrorists repeatedly firing gunshots accompanied by chants of "Allahu Akbar".
The video shows vehicles and buildings ablaze with many of the terrorists marching past as the fire continued. The Nigerian Correctional Services revealed that 4 inmates lost their lives during the attack while 879 inmates escaped. The public relations officer of the correctional services has declared that 443 of the escaped inmates have been recaptured while the others are at large. He also confirmed that Deputy Commissioner of police, Abba Kyari as well as other VIPs being held in the facility did not escape.
Residents of the nation's federal capital are advised to be vigilant and exercise caution in their daily movement while efforts are intensified to recapture the escaped inmates.
