How Soldiers At Kuje Prison Were Removed 24 Hours Before Attack And Abba Kyari's Whereabouts Revealed

Amid the attack on Kuje prison by suspected Boko Haram terrorists who reportedly freed not less than 600 inmates suspected to be their members, rumour has it that the security at the prison facility was compromised 24 hours before the attack.

An unnamed source who spoke to the Vanguard Newspaper alleges that soldiers guarding the Kuje prison were redeployed to a different location 24 hours before the attack.

The source further claimed that the soldiers redeployed to the Kuje prison were not familiar with the terrain  and which the terrorist exploited during the attack.

The correctional facility which holds high profile figures such as former governor Jolly Nyame of Taraba state and Farouk Lawan, a former member of the House of Representatives, convicted of corruption, also houses embattled suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari.

Sources claimed that 90 % of inmates escaped the facilities during the attack. It is also alleged that DCP Abba Kyari facilitated the attack in connivance with some powerful northern elites.

Hence, he is rumoured to have escaped from the correctional custody during the attack.

However, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr Shuaib Belgore has refuted the report that Abba Kyari and former governor Jolly Nyame escaped during the attack.

"Abba Kyari is not missing. The total population of the Kuje Prison inmates is about 1,476, and only 111 of the inmates refused to escape and decided to remain in the prison as 90 percent of the inmates escaped.

“Those that decided not to escape included former Governor Jolly Nyame of Taraba state, Farouk lawal, Abba Kyari and four of his officers: Retired AVM and also 107 other inmates whose jail term is less than three months remaining and some who are innocent of what they were accused of.

“There are also a few other good Senior Citizens", Belgore said.
