A week ago, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) announced actor and producer Funke Akindele-Bello as running mate to the gubernatorial candidate Dr Abdul-Azeeez Olajide Adediran (JANDOR). This news received mixed reactions from Nigerians especially as it came shortly after her estranged husband singer, record producer and director JJC Skillz announced that he had moved out of their shared property at his wife's insistence.
In a video released on Tuesday 12 July, 2022, Funke Akindele explained to Nigerians that politics had always been a personal passion even though that aspect of her life wasn't as popular as her activities in the entertainment industry. She asserted that when the gubernatorial candidate Dr Adediran, asked her to be his running mate in the forthcoming election, she saw it as an opportunity to help liberate and improve the welfare of our people.
Funke Akindele urged residents of Lagos, especially the youths to use their numerical strength to their full advantage. The actor and producer also said that she wasn't unaware of the cost of this assignment on her vibrant career which she must now necessarily put on hold. She deemed it a personal sacrifice. Many have wished Funke Akindele the best of luck as she journeys on this new phase of her life.
It was also observed that the actor made a point of introducing herself only by her maiden name at the end of the video. She introduced herself as Olufunke Akindele. Many Nigerians have speculated that this deliberate introduction spells the permanent end of her marriage to Abdulrasheed Bello better known as JJC Skillz.
