BREAKING: Okada May Be Banned In Nigeria (Read Why)

If feelers around are anything to go by, the Nigerian Government may place a nationwide ban on the use of commercial motorcycles, popularly known as Okada.

The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, while briefing State House reporters after a meeting of National Security Council (NSC) presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, gave the clue.

According to Malami, the NSC meeting focused on the logistics used by the terrorists to stop their activities, adding that investigation revealed that okada was used for mining activities across the country and the ban could cut off sources of funds of terrorists and bandits.

Malami averred that the federal government needed to act as terrorists had moved from the conventional ways of funding their activities to mining and ransom taking, noting that the motorcycles were used by the bandits for movement, while mining provides them the money to fund their arms supply.

Malami while responding to question on the effect the ban on okada and mining activities will have on Nigerians and the economy, said the federal government would place national and public interests above individual interests.
