Boris Johnson Resigns as British Prime Minister

Boris Johnson has resigned as Britain's Prime Minister and leader of the Conservative Party. He was elected  Prime Minister in 2019. Mr Johnson announced his resignation on 7 July, 2022 at 10, Downing Street, London. He also stated that despite the resignation, he will remain in office until the Conservative Party elects a new leader who will assume office as Prime Minister. This election is expected to happen some time before October. This writer thinks this is a very convenient type of resignation. Hmm!

Boris Johnson was well-known for the numerous controversies that surrounded his tenure. In fact, he became the first British Prime Minister to have been sanctioned for breaking a law while in office. He received a fixed penalty notice for breaking COVID-19 regulations. His tenure also witnessed the highest number of ministerial resignation in a 24 hour period.

Supporters have praised Boris as a well-liked political figure. Referring to him as humourous, witty and entertaining, with a wide public appeal. Critics on the other hand, have accused him of lying, amorality and bigotry. We certainly hope that the next Prime Minister will be a person with much a more commendable character and also possess stellar qualities.
