Boris Johnson has resigned as Britain's Prime Minister and leader of the Conservative Party. He was elected Prime Minister in 2019. Mr Johnson announced his resignation on 7 July, 2022 at 10, Downing Street, London. He also stated that despite the resignation, he will remain in office until the Conservative Party elects a new leader who will assume office as Prime Minister. This election is expected to happen some time before October. This writer thinks this is a very convenient type of resignation. Hmm!
Boris Johnson was well-known for the numerous controversies that surrounded his tenure. In fact, he became the first British Prime Minister to have been sanctioned for breaking a law while in office. He received a fixed penalty notice for breaking COVID-19 regulations. His tenure also witnessed the highest number of ministerial resignation in a 24 hour period.
Supporters have praised Boris as a well-liked political figure. Referring to him as humourous, witty and entertaining, with a wide public appeal. Critics on the other hand, have accused him of lying, amorality and bigotry. We certainly hope that the next Prime Minister will be a person with much a more commendable character and also possess stellar qualities.
